Expansion is dish of the day for Street Food Chef

Sheffield's successful Mexican food specialist, Street Food Chef, has taken a lease on a fashionable Sharrow Vale Road property to establish its fourth outlet in the city.

Wake Smith advised on the lease for a former Sharrow Vale burger restaurant on behalf of Street Food Chef's owners, enabling expansion of the chain, which has outlets on Pinstone Street, Arundel Street and Glossop Road.

Street Food Chef, which has become an established lunchtime hit with Sheffield's business community and students, is the brainchild of Abi Golland, a former nursery teacher from Oxford, and Sheffield-born husband Richard who spotted a gap in the market for healthy, fresh, Mexican cuisine.

Abi Golland, co-founder of Street Food Chef, said: “We had the vision to create a string of outlets in Sheffield and the concept works really well here. Our locations are well positioned for the business community, students and people who are out shopping.

“Mexican food is really taking off in most cities and we identified the premises on Sharrow Vale Road as somewhere we really wanted to launch another Street Food Chef, but this meant quite a short time-frame for Wake Smith to deal with the lease requirements, so we are delighted that it all went smoothly.

“Sharrow Vale Road is a really vibrant, boutique shopping district and always seemed to be a natural location for us with its proximity to Ecclesall Road.”

Now in its sixth year, Street Food Chef started life as an event catering service and operated from a mobile catering van for a period before moving into permanent premises.

Paul Gibbon, director at Wake Smith's commercial property  division, said: “We were really pleased to be able to arrange the lease requirements for Street Food Chef's latest expansion, especially in view of the short timeframe.

“The business model established by Abi and Richard works extremely well and they have developed a really devoted customer base across all of their sites and Sharrow Vale Road taps into another section of the city which has good footfall.”

The new Street Food Chef outlet, located at 376 Sharrow Vale Road, will specialise in the company's signature burritos, nachos, tacos, quesadillas and dips and is expected to start trading in July 2016.
