Wake Smith completes Million Steps challenge

Employees from Wake Smith Solicitors smashed their target of 1,000,000 steps in seven days to raise funds for their chosen charity Sheffield’s St Luke’s Hospice.

The Sheffield solicitors spent the last week walking, running and exercising to reach a staggering total of 1,116,976 steps and raise £550 for the Sheffield cancer support charity.

Director and Head of Commercial Property Neil Salter took the accolade for the most steps clocked up on one day with an impressive 31,007, taking his individual total for the week to 130,185.

The challenge formed part of Night Strider Virtual Challenge which this year took place throughout October, and is ordinarily the biggest and most popular fundraising event of the year for St Luke’s.

Kate Lax, solicitor at Wake Smith and charitable board member, said: “Reaching our objective of one million steps was an incredible effort by all the team.

“I’m so glad we took part in this challenge. It got a bit of conversation going about activity and movement within our team and definitely encouraged more of us to up our step count.

“Walking is one of the most accessible exercises that we can do, and offers us a fantastic opportunity to keep active, improve our mental and physical health, whilst also reconnecting with others. Thanks to everyone who donated and anyone, who still wants to, can click on the link below.”

St Luke’s cares for people throughout Sheffield with terminal illnesses and helped provide invaluable care to Wake Smith's Helen Paul who died earlier this year. They help to control patients’ symptoms, alleviate pain, and give them the best possible quality of life all without charge.

Last year Wake Smith raised £6,400 for Sheffield’s Create A Dream Foundation after holding fundraising events including dress down days, a staff games night, running the Sheffield 10k, Great British Bake Off-style cake sales, sweepstakes, competitions, a tuck shop, lunch club raffles and a quiz night.
