Rebecca studied English Literature at the University of Westminster before going on to study at both the College of Law, London and the College of Law, Birmingham. Rebecca started at Wake Smith as a trainee solicitor and qualified into the firm’s Company Commercial department in 2005.

  • the acquisition by Red Industries of the Environmental Resource Group for an acquisition price of £23.5m funded by term loan facilities of £17.1m provided by HSBC UK Bank and a £14m equity and loan investment in Red Industries by BGF;
  • the sale of the entire issued share capital of Guardian Electrical Compliance Ltd to AIM Ltd Premier Technical Services Group plc for an initial sum of £13m funded through a £20m share placing;
  • the disposal of the entire issued share capital of Spencer Coatings Group Limited, one of largest high performance industrial coating manufacturers in the UK to Axalta Coating Systems, an New York Stock Exchange listed company, for an undisclosed sum;
  • the management buy-out of Bag It Don’t Bin It Limited, a Sheffield based company which makes branded cotton canvas bags as an eco-friendly, fairly traded alternative to plastic carrier bags;
  • the sale of Granville Oil & Chemicals Limited, a manufacturer of motor oils, and automotive chemicals and distributor of Turtle Wax®, Rain-X®, GUNK®, and Autosol® products, to the Indian Stock Exchange listed Tide Water Oil Company for £9.59million; and the sale of Hulley’s Frozen Foods, a nationwide frozen food and ice cream wholesaler and distribution company, to North Shields-based group Kitwave.
  • Advising in connection with cross-border joint ventures involving companies based in the US, Australia and European countries;
  • Corporate restructures including buying out divisions of a business and/or retiring shareholders by way of demergers and share for share exchanges;
  • Active in the firm’s appointments to HSBC, Yorkshire Bank, Lloyds Banking Group and Santander in connection with transactions, reorganisations and general banking advice.

Out of work:

Having recently moved house Rebecca has been busy working on home improvements, although most weekends are spent walking in the Peak District with her husband and Jack Russell.

Following her degree in English Literature Rebecca continues to be an avid reader, her preference at the moment being early to mid 20th century American literature, particularly works by Jack Kerouac, William Styron and John Steinbeck.
