Nick was admitted as a solicitor in 1983 having obtained a Batchelor of Laws degree LLB 2:1 from Manchester University followed by the College of Law at Chester and two years training with Tofield Lambert and Meeke solicitors of Sheffield.

  • Acting for a substantial local house builder in defending claims arising out of a joint development project
  • Acting for the Claimant in a high value dispute about fitness for purpose of pipes to be used in the offshore gas/oil industry.
  • Various high value cross-border claims against Dutch, German and Italian companies relating to constructional engineering projects at various English power stations.
  • Acting for a manufacturer/supplier of material handling systems in a dispute with a plastics recycling facility.
  • Acting in various claims brought against insurance companies, for example for the value of a substantial working man’s club in Manchester destroyed by fire and in relation to the prospective total loss of a house on the East Coast through landslip.
  • Acting for the Respondent to an unfair prejudice petition (minority shareholder’s claim) relating to shares worth several million pounds.
  • Claimant’s solicitor in Cottingham and another v Attey Bower & Jones [2000] All ER (D) 435 – a ground-breaking solicitors negligence claim.
  • Various claims against solicitors mainly arising out of mistakes made in property transactions but also in relation to poor drafting of option agreements, sale and purchase agreements, shareholders agreements and mistakes made in the conduct of litigation.
  • Acting in a claim against a barrister for a negligent ‘door of Court’ settlement.
  • Various claims against surveyors for negligent building surveys/valuations.
  • Representing a substantial local firm of accountants in a dispute with one of its Partners.
  • Acting for a firm of solicitors with regard to the exclusion from the partnership of one of the partners and resolving all issues arising.
  • Acting against a Baptist Church claiming rights over valuable development land in South Wales.
  • Numerous cases involving claims to property arising on the breakdown of the relationship of people living together.
  • Numerous cases involving disputes between neighbours relating to, for example rights of way, the position of boundaries, boundary structures, building works etc.
  • acting for a large number of local residential flat management companies and thus being routinely engaged to advise on issues relating to residential service charges, repairing obligations, disputes between management company and apartment owner and matters of that nature.
  • Numerous cases relating to commercial lease renewals, dilapidation claims, forfeiture.
