Jo Malcolm

Residential Conveyancer

Lives:  Penistone, Sheffield (technically Barnsley, but Sheffield sounds better!)

Education:  Mexborough Comprehensive School & 6th Form – I left after the first year of doing my A-Levels as I realised education was not for me.

Work History: I started working for Taylor Wimpey’s in-house legal team as an office junior and quickly worked my way up to Site Conveyancer. I then joined Wake Smith in 2010 as a Conveyancing Assistant and was promoted to Residential Conveyancer in 2012. I think I am a good example that you don’t always need a good education, as long as you are ambitious and willing to work hard, then you will achieve a lot in life!

What was your first job?  Worked on the checkouts at Argos in Meadowhall (Christmas job!)

What did you think you would be when you grew up?  PE Teacher but after leaving school I wanted to be a Fire Fighter although my eye-sight is not all that great

Where is the best place to go for office gossip?  Kitchen. You can have a natter whilst making a brew.

What is the best thing about your job?  Acting for first time buyers who are super excited to be buying their first property – they’re just so grateful for all the hard work and time you put into the file to get them to the point of completion.

What is the worst thing about your job?  When we’re unable to achieve a completion date requested by our client’s due to issues that are out of our control.

What and where is your favourite restaurant?  315 in Huddersfield.

What book are you reading?  Being a full-time working mum of 2, I do not get much time to read however I’m reading Witches by Roald Dahl with my son!

If you were stranded on a desert island, which two luxury items would you take?  Mobile phone (can not live without it!) and an endless supply of food.

If a film was being made of your life, who would you want to play you and why?  Chelsea Handler – she is so funny, just like me!

Who would you least like to be stuck in a lift with?  Donald Trump….say no more.

Which 3 celebrities would you invite to your perfect dinner party (alive or dead)?  Steve Tyler from Aerosmith, Tom Hanks and Prince Harry. All really funny men.., I think they would have a good laugh and we could top the night off with a few song from Steve!

What do you enjoy in your spare time?  Watching my son play football, watching my daughter attempting to do Ballet and Tap, and playing football myself, both for my team in Penistone and for Wake Smith.

Who is your hero and why?  A little bit soppy, but it has to be my Husband. He puts up with my complaining after a bad day at work, my laziness around the house and he’s an amazing dad to our children. Cannot ask for anything more!
