Nick Lambert
Chairman
Litigation Department

Lives: Nether Edge, Sheffield

Education:  Westbourne, Uppingham, Manchester University, Chester College of Law

Work History:  Joined Tofield Lambert and Meeke solicitors Sheffield in 1981 for my 2 year training contract and never left. After many mergers and name changes the firm finally merged with Wake Smith in 2007

What was your first job?  Asset auditor for the then brand new South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive in 1976 which basically consisted of scheduling everything that they owned including the number of buses as they had no idea themselves. It took a team of 6 of us a year to complete the task and I’m fairly certain we double counted the buses on more than one occasion.

What did you think you would be when you grew up?  A solicitor.

Where is the best place to go for office gossip?  I’m afraid that I’m always the last to hear of any gossip, conclusive proof that I have no idea where to go for it.

What is the best thing about your job?  As a litigator it’s winning cases.

What is the worst thing about your job?  Losing cases.

What and where is your favourite restaurant?  The Teppanyaki tables at Wasabisabi on London Rd, Sheffield, great food and theatre all at one and the same time.

What book are you reading?  Walls across the Valley, a completely absorbing historical account of the construction of the Derwent and Howden Dams by Brian Robinson.

If you were stranded on a desert island, which two luxury items would you take?  A flare gun and a huge crate of flares.

If a film was being made of your life, who would you want to play you and why?  Tom Hanks because he’d make a much better job of being me then I have.

Who would you least like to be stuck in a lift with?  Nicola Sturgeon. Am I allowed to say that?

Which 3 celebrities would you invite to your perfect dinner party (alive or dead)?  Jesus as the wine wouldn’t then be a problem, Nigella Lawson for her skills in the kitchen and for one or two other reasons and Henry the V111 for some outrageous eating habits and interesting conversation about religion, politics, monarchy, wives etc etc.

What do you enjoy in your spare time?  Everything, but mostly walking in Derbyshire (and anywhere else) with Karen my partner of 34 years and our patterjack terrier Bella (age 7).

Who is your hero and why?  Anybody who can look back at their life and say that they did absolutely everything they wanted to do.
